Franklin & Marshall College Diplomats
The Franklin & Marshall College Diplomats are the athletic teams of Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The school's mascot is the Diplomat, and the school colors are blue and white.
The Diplomats nickname was chosen in 1934, following a suggestion from student Richard Honaman. Honaman was inspired by the school's reputation for academic excellence and its commitment to international education. He wrote a satirical article in the school newspaper, suggesting that the football team be renamed the "Diplomats" because they were "always polite to their opponents, even when they were beating them soundly."
